a few days and things change

R's question certainly made us chagrined yesterday. he asked me "mommy why don't we take baths anymore?" well i answered, it is fall and so you are less dirty, and you have also been taking showers. apparently i just let my children run around dirty. i did remind him that he was scheduled to have a bath friday night. he said that is not enough.

well he has been doing well. yesterday he slept in his big loft bed for the first time. tonight he is in his bed and K is in her "new" thomas bed. apparently dad and i might have the bed alone for the first time for at least part of the night. but do not hold your breath.

it rained today. which was too bad as we had plans to go to the park and hear children's musicians and writers. instead, r and i went to the library, we did laundry, ruskin and k went to the grocery store. it was low key. morning was nice. we talked and had a leisurely breakfast during which we talked about hurricane ike and then, of course, had to look up pictures and video to supplement our discussion.

yesterday r had acrobat teacher. he did well. we think it will be beneficial and are trying to supplement at home. he seems to have trouble with movement that involves crossing the midline. i will find out more but it is a common issue for kids. he got to spend time with masee and eat cookies so he was quite happy.

k has a great sense of humor. today she wanted to change daddy's BM diaper. and made daddy lie down on the ground. she has a runny nose and seemed a little cranky but tried her best. she ate an enormous amount of grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. she likes to help now that she is an older toddler. she helped make her breakfast, grocery shop, and clean up. it is exciting to see her come into her own. much of it is about asserting her autonomy. her most common word is no. but we are able to enjoy it (except for r).

at the library he mentioned that they read abiyoyo at school. this is an old pete seeger song that is based on a s. african story. what is interesting is that i thought he would be scared by it. but he laughed about it. so we got the book and a sequel as well. he picked out several magic school bus books for bedtime reading. i am not sure how much he understands but he sure does like science.

well it has been an ok several days. i hope that some family might be coming to visit soon... perhaps for navratri?
