gory sports poetry
R's class had a poetry cafe tonight. it was delightful.
i learned
1) that 3rd and 4th graders like to write about death (in gory detail), fairies and magic, sports, and holidays and
2) the inspiration for Ro's poem entitled "Talking Baseball" was the malevolent baseball in calvin and hobbes.
3) his poem is a new hybrid subgenre of gory sports poetry
4) our son likes the stage and the spotlight!
Poem to follow when i get a chance.

Annual posting
We are fortunate to have so many items in our lives and want to teach our kids to live more simply. We love the idea of home made or simple presents for the kids (e.g. art, a book, or an activity with the kids).
But, for those of you who are looking for suggestions, here are some possible options. (As always, please let me know when you have decided to choose ONE of the items so I can cross it off the list.)
All prices are approximate just to give a ball park number
Ro:
5) money savvy piggy bank ($20)
7) gift certificate to the local comic book store
(suggested comics collection of bone? amulet?)
8) collection of calvin and hobbes books
4) money savvy piggy bank ($20)
8) hexbug stuff (contact me)
Other
a nice globe
Usborne greek myths book
Thanks!
