this morning was a blur but the kids are apparently ready for their next adventure up north. both know that we are going but have little sense of time. K had another difficult drop off. she was very sad but i think she perked up quickly. R seemed eager to be at school though he was disappointed that there was not much time to read and journal.
the first year students arrived today. it was a mess on campus. we picked the kids up and went to the cheese shop. R was very excited -- it is a favorite destination. we grabbed some pizza and headed home. R was talking nonstop, K was contradicting and I was trying to tell Ruskin about some college news. Ruskin commented that sometimes R, K, and I are talking at the same time, the radio is on, and he is trying to think. i told him he did not need to think! poor ruskin. we all may be more desai than hunt in this matter.
K is just in a contradictory mode. no matter what anybody says, the answer is no. she was very excited today when i picked her up on the playground. steph, on the of the teachers, had found a frog. she was also thrilled because we walked out with her friend griffin who is a sweet gentle boy that has been in the same bungalow with her since she was about 8 months old. they ran to their respective cars while holding hands.
R was asking his usual ton of questions and i remarked that perhaps he should have been named jigna (meaning curiosity) and ruskin commented perhaps he should be named loquacious. R of course wanted to know what that meant. and when i replied "talkative." he said no i do not like that. i like my name.
today is also short as i have to finish packing and doing work and it is late. i am not sure what kind of internet access we will have up north so it may be sporadic until we return. this is our next minnesotan adventure this week -- a place on lake superior for the weekend. what else is left to qualify us as midwesterners? do we have to eat hotdish, say uff-da, or become packers fans? i think this may be as far as i can go!
as a consolation for the short text, here are some photos from the party... the first few are of R the paleontologist and the others of bday cake consumption
more to come
