family adventure march 18th

we went to see the king tut exhibit at the science museum because we wanted to learn more about ancient egypt. we have been watching protests in egypt this year and we wanted to know more about the history of egypt.

the civilization in egypt 5000 years ago was amazing.
these are our favorite things.
K:
1. ancient egyptians had a cat god named bastet.
2. we saw a tomb box for a dead cat.
3. ancient egyptians had horses and camels.
4. they used hieroglyphics to write.

R:
1. a waterboy found the stairs to king tut's tomb accidentally.
2. king tut was buried in lots of layers -- a wood coffin, a gold one, and a shroud or blanket covered his mummy.
3. there was lots of gold and lapiz lazuli.
4. they are doing DNA tests on the mummies, including king tut and his father.
5. the tomb for the pharaohs collapsed after they removed the mummies.

PS
k also went swimming, had a playdate, and saw a cryogenic show. we had fun together. and today we are going to go start out tea party.

we are trying to teach the kids how to sift through details to summarize the important information and provide just a few details. this is hard for both of them. but is an important step for R who needs a way to sift through details and create structure rather than function in an endless sea of detail that has no structure, starting point, and ending point. more on this another time.
